Are fires allowed on the beach of Little Gasparilla Island?

No – only under special circumstances will fires be allowed on the beach or in the dunes.

Are golf carts allowed on the beach?

No – only emergency vehicles and turtle patrol are permitted on the beach.

Can we launch fireworks on the beach?

No – any fireworks that launch into the air are illegal in Florida.

Can I burn leaves and trees?

Yes – the burning of natural materials including lumber is allowed when the conditions are right. You may not burn household garbage, furniture, plastic or other products. Please verify current conditions before proceeding as there are official burn bans in place when conditions warrant.

Does the fire department change smoke detector batteries?

Yes – we will come change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  Recommended 2 times per year.

Does the fire department install smoke detectors?

Yes – we will install battery operated smoke detectors for you, 110 volt smoke detectors will need to be installed by an electrician.

Does the fire department refill fire extinguishers?

No – the refilling and recertification of a fire extinguisher must be done by a certified provider.

Can the fire department check my blood pressure?

Yes – you can come to the fire station or we can come to you and check blood pressure.

Can the fire department check my blood glucose levels (blood sugar)?

Yes – you can come to the fire department or we can come to you.

Does the fire department supply medications if I forget mine or run out?

No – the fire department does not stock medications to be given out freely. We recommend bringing extra of any prescribed medications as well as bringing medications for headaches and allergies.  Also, if you depend on an insulin pump, bring an extra pump or syringes/needles to administer insulin if needed.

Can the fire department help me administer my own medications?

Yes – we can assist you with your prescribed medications (as long as they are yours) or with any over the counter medication.

Will the fire department assist me even if I am not hurt or having a medical problem?

Yes – we will come and assist you with any needs that may arise, for example: up/down stairs, on/off the boat, burning debris. Prevention of injury or a hazardous condition is key.
